WE BUILD WORLDS is a site-specific installation project for the Birdsell Residency Project. The installation is comprised of immersive wall and floor video projections, sound, and sculptural objects in "The EndCap" space at the Vested Interest industrial building (South Bend, IN).
WE BUILD WORLDS reflects an isolation and artifice that comes with our technological experiences.
Videography by Tim Seitz and Christian Heriquez.
WE BUILD WORLDS creates an environment that juxtaposes the seductive imagery of videogame play (from No Man’s Sky by Hello Games) with an unattainable rewards system (out of reach papercraft gems).
The machinima (or video) footage is literally fragmented into color fields and edited so that no goal is apparent for the viewer. Within each world of the projected video, the player dies (“toxicity level 70%”) as they wander through the alien landscape. The music deepens the immersive quality of the landscapes and open-ended narratives of each world, enveloping the viewer into and within the projected environment. The results of the projected environment can be literally dizzying for the viewer in the space.
Worlds #1-#4 and floor/wall projections.
