In the Queue of WE BUILD WORLDS, “The Player” streams through a blooming, multicolored universe, and becomes a part of the structural grid, in the form of a flat, pixellated color field.

WE BUILD WORLDS: #1

WE BUILD WORLDS creates an environment that juxtaposes the seductive imagery of videogame play (from No Man’s Sky by Hello Games) with an unattainable rewards system (out of reach papercraft gems).

The machinima (or video) footage is literally fragmented into color fields and edited so that no goal is apparent for the viewer. Within each world of the projected video, the player dies (“toxicity level 70%”) as they wander through the alien landscape. The music deepens the immersive quality of the landscapes and open-ended narratives of each world, enveloping the viewer into and within the projected environment. The results of the projected environment can be literally dizzying for the viewer in the space.

The installation was comprised of immersive wall and floor video projections, sound, and sculptural objects. WE BUILD WORLDS: #2 is one of five videos projected in "The EndCap" space at the Vested Interest industrial building (South Bend, IN).

LVL_UP!

LVL-UP! recreates videogame level-grinding in physical space and engages an all-ages public audience. During a LVL-UP! session, participants construct and decorate paper craft gem tokens. This is a looping interactive video that’s a part of the installation. We earn +1 spirit in our creative labor!
