STRT/SLCT is a collaborative art project by Eli Kahn and Krista Hoefle. The name STRT/SLCT is derived from the physical buttons featured on most videogame controllers that players use to begin a game. The banal act of pushing a physical button can unleash an immersive and emotional digital world for the player. We create immersive environments that engage the audience directly through digital video, sound, and physical objects embedded into a space. Although videogame-related objects, textures, moving images and sounds are an important source material, medias from other digital environments are incorporated into the visual and auditory language we use, as well as the ideas that drive an installation.
Krista Hoefle received a BFA in Furniture Design from The Savannah College of Art and Design and an MFA in Sculpture from Pennsylvania State University. Krista has had international solo and group exhibitions at numerous galleries and museums, such as Heron Arts (San Francisco), Sage Art Center (Rochester, NY), Packer Schopf Gallery (Chicago), WomanMade Gallery (Chicago), TrykTrykTryk Gallery (Copenhagen, Denmark), High Loft Gallery (NY), and Mixed Greens Gallery (NY). She has been awarded Artist in Residencies at Anchor Graphics (Chicago) and The Experimental Television Center (Owego, NY). She has been a Visiting artist at the University of Tennessee (Knoxville), University of Rochester, and the University of Southern Maine. Her work has been reviewed in regional and national publications such as Sculpture Magazine, Art Papers, The Wall Street Journal and TimeOut Chicago. Krista is represented by Aron Packer Projects (Chicago, IL). She is currently an Associate Professor of Art at Saint Mary’s College (Notre Dame, IN).
Eli Kahn received a Bachelor of Music in Classical Guitar and Music Theory from Indiana University (South Bend). Eli is a multi-instrumentalist/composer/beatmaker obsessed with sonic texture & instrumental soundscapes. His background in classical, jazz, hip-hop, & experimental music allows him to blend modern technological elements with nostalgic melodic structures, all while engulfing the listener in sound. Eli has performed and created music/sound in a variety of venues, including the South Bend Museum of Art, ArtPrize (Grand Rapids, MI), and the Birdsell Residency (South Bend, IN).
